A little more off the beaten path, I had an opportunity to contribute social permaculture work to the ArtsBuild Art+Climate Project team (shoutout to Brianna Jones and Jules Jackson!) in order to help convey the importance of weaving art into our natural environment and fostering community engagement in a way to teaches principles of sustainability, ultimately showing people how to foster resilience from the impacts of climate.

Their pain points:
❎ Need to increase overall community awareness of the goals of the Art+Climate Project, especially throughout the Rossville Blvd corridor
❎ Hope to educate the larger public on social permaculture principles and ignite a sense of ownership in turning the tide with climate change
❎ Need to a sense of community engagement at the Crabtree Farms Plant Sale through an art-based activity

What they hired me for:
✅ Facilitate a public art-making station at Crabtree Farms teaching social permaculture principles
✅ Serve as a resource for other recommendations for addressing climate through the teachings of social permaculture
✅ Design a special edition ‘zine to showcase artwork from the community that shares important values and messages for the Earth and environment

💥 How I overdelivered on my brand promise: delivered the special edition ‘zine with community art in less than 6 months of hire; donated a book of reference points to the ArtsBuild office for future work with social permaculture; and reserved a tabling space for the Art+Climate Project at Maker Day to increase public visibility of the project (one of our most popular tables!);

The special edition ‘zine and the fact that the Art+Climate project event exists proves that people actually do care about the environment…most of the time they just need some coaching and a table of art supplies to get at it.
